Surge Protectors

A surge protector is an appliance designed to protect electrical devices from voltage spikes. Surge protectors attempt to regulate the voltage supplied to an electric device by either blocking or shorting to ground voltage above a safe threshold. A surge protector works by channeling the extra voltage into the outlet's grounding wire, preventing it from flowing through the electronic devices while at the same time allowing the normal voltage to continue along its path. Electrical surges can damage computer equipment by burning its wires or gradually over time wearing down the devices internal components and even wipe out any saved data. Surge protectors can also protect telephone and cable lines as these also carry electric current.

Surge protectors in most electronic superstores are bound to be displayed like boxes of tissue. The powers that be who run these establishments are also going to try to sell you a Butterfinger candy bar as you purchase your surge protectors. Basically, this is a device that sits between your PC or other electronic equipment and the electrical mains outlet and protects your equipment's power supply
from electrical surges. Any power from the mains must pass through the surge protector to reach your gear.

A surge protector regulates the current to connected equipment by either blocking or shorting to ground any "unsafe" voltage. We are at Surge-Protectors.org to help you with further guideline to purchase Surge protectors.
